After leaving the Kansas City area we headed south on I-35 into Oklahoma, remaining overnight in a small city park in Guthrie. It was supposed to have electricity, but did not. We survived as temperatures dipped into the 30s. A whole LOT better than the 10-20 degrees in K.C. We still were not carrying water due to the low temperatures. The next day continued south through Oklahoma City and Norman. The last time I was in OK City was in 1967, which was littered with oil derricks. Not a one seen today. South of Norman, about 20 miles is an anticline of rolling hills. This marker was at the peak, chronicling the development of reflection seismography. Which, of course. allowed the discovery of hidden oil fields.

As we headed south, we slowly shed our clothes,as temperatures reached 60 degrees. While traveling through Fort Worth in slow traffic, we witnessed our first CRAZY driver of the trip, weaving in and out of multiple lanes and zipping past cars in the far right median. This was our destination, Lake Whitney, Texas at Cedar Creek Campground. A quiet spot with six free campsites. Since the weather has been great, we have lounged here for three nights. There is another big plus, a Schlotsky’s Sandwich Shop is nearby…..Yum!
