Mt Wasson Loop

IMG_1596

The rig got new Michelin tires and our bank account had less money in it. We ended up making three trips to the tire store due to a brass valve getting smashed on the inner dual by the outer dual wheel rim when it was installed.

On Sunday we hiked to Mt. Wasson which is part of the Tucson Mountains. This is the beginning of the trail.

This is part of a small picnic area up the trail. Not much shade here!

A funky saguaro.

Gaining elevation…looking west to Kitt Peak Observatory.

A purple cactus. I have forgotten the proper name…mmmmm.

The trail goes to a saddle then you begin climbing north. This is a view of the valley and the northern sections of Tucson with Mt. Lemmon in the distance.

Another view to the west.

Some idea of the elevation gain hiking north…

This view is to the southeast with Davis Monthan AFB, "The Boneyard", and Pima Air and Space Museum in the distance. Yes, it was quite hazy that day.

More climbing…

Looking back down the trail…

Another shot of the Rincon Mountains across the valley.

Up and up…

At the top, looking west!

Intrepid hikers!

We saw two sets of flowers the whole hike.

We hiked back a different route than the climb up. It had fewer rocks on the trail and these two interesting igneous rock outcroppings.

A long 8.2 mile hike, so we were beat by the time we got back to the rig. But, after a shower and something to eat, this sunset made it all worth while.
