Today we headed about 35 miles south southwest as the crow flys from Tucson through Sonoita to Patagonia to meet our friends for lunch. The terrain is higher here as you move through the foothills of the Santa Rita Mountains. As you can see, nice grassland with no saguaro! This is also prime illegal immigration and smuggling territory.
This is the pizza boy outside of the Velvet Elvis. This place is supposedly one of the top fifty pizza joints in the country. Carla and I had “The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly” pizza. Considering it had black olives, which I despise, it tasted pretty damn good!
A shot of the crew leaving the place. The two behind bars belong there, just troublemakers :)
Heading back north we took a shortcut to Madera Canyon, which is on the northwest slope of the Santa Rita Mointains. This is essentially the one lane road through the mountains to get to the other side. We were planning on hiking, but ran out of time. So, we checked out the small campground instead.
