We had planned to head straight north on Highway 71 to the head waters of the Mississippi River at Lake Itasca, MN, but looking at the reservation site, it was full. So, we opted to cut a more direct route through Fargo and Grand Forks to Highway 2. Highway 2 extends all the way to Glacier, and is 4 lane across ND. As we neared the ND/MN border, wheat made its appearance.
There are an abundance of glacial lakes in western MN. This is a nice overlook of such a lake. A huge block of glacier just sat here and melted.
We reached Grand Forks after passing through Fargo on the Interstate. I had good Verizon access, so we had the netbook up on the Grand Forks radar through Weather Underground to dodge storms. I like their radar display over my previous employers, the National Weather Service. For reflectivity, it is quite good. We continued to dodge storms until we reached our campsite at Michigan ND. A very nice four RV city park adjacent to the golf course. Free will donation and good water too.
Carla took this shot while we hiked around the golf course for some exercise. On to western ND tomorrow.
