Carla took this shot outside our camping spot at Gilbert Ray campground. Gilbert Ray is a very nice campground on the western outskirts of Tucson. With a good eye, you can see Kitt Peak Observatory to the west from Gilbert Ray. Plenty of coyotes and Gambrel’s quail running around. We had been here for three days and were getting ready to head out.
This shot was taken along I-8 west of Casa Grande. Somewhat drier here.
As we approached Yuma, you see this device floating in the air. They are prevalent along the border with Mexico. Border Patrol drone, loaded with cameras, infrared detectors, and other surveillance devices.
Our camping spot is north of Yuma. This is a shot of a field of lettuce. Acres and acres of leafy vegetables are planted in the broad river bottom along the Colorado River. Most fields appear to be less than 20 acres. I imagine its easier handling the irrigation equipment in a smaller field.
I believe the darker area is red lettuce. During the winter, Yuma is considered the lettuce capital of the U.S. I don’t know for sure, but I imagine growing lettuce here in the summer is not done. Just too hot.
